I take the middle ground, I know electrification is coming.  It's going to work well in some areas like passenger vehicles and perhaps trucks too. It's obvious intercontinental flights will not happen in my lifetime, along with ocean liners.

I work in road construction, everything we do involves using fossil fuels. Shovels,loaders,graders, grinders, packers,pavers,rollers all run  on diesel. The asphalt itself is a byproduct of oil, asphalt plants to heat it up runs on natural gas.

My point is there has to be a revolutionary change on how we build our roads in order to get off oil. This again will not happen in my lifetime.
