Besides the math another consideration in my decision to move back down in the waiting list is to see if Toyota can deliver on their plans for a solid state battery.  Must admit that I am not 100% confident that they can deliver in the announced timeframe but if they do it is my opinion that such a battery will address many of the current concerns about range and charging speeds.  That said, much will still depend on the price and the associated math.

Lots of people are talking about hybrids these days but I am not convinced that this will be a long term solution.  A close friend bought a hybrid a number of months ago.  Him and his wife joined us in Spain for a few days.  We got talking about the fuel economy I was getting with my diesel Mercedes rental and I asked what his experience was with the hybrid and he said that it was a saving him a bit in city driving but not a lot and on the highway of course since the hydrid part doesn't help and is in fact just extra weight to carry so he thought he got less fuel economy on the highway.
