Nothing to worry about

Nothing to worry aboutOne US gallon of gasoline generates the same energy as 33.7 kilowatt hours of electricity.

The Tesla M3 and MY Long range batteries have a capacity of 75 kWh.

A long range Tesla will travel more than 300 miles or 500 liters on a charge.  That is the equivalent of about 150 miles per gallon of gas.  The point is how incredibly inefficient ICE vehicles are compared to EV's in terms of maximizing energy efficiency.  In other words, gas powered cars waste about 80% of their fuel on generating heat as opposed to push the car forward.

Charging your EV in your garage overnight, costs $0.087 per kWh or about $6.50 for 500km.

A honda civic is known as a very efficient economy car.  It gets a combined 32 miles per US gallon. That means it costs about 4.7x more for fuel for a civic than a tesla.

Batteries are going to continue to get more and more efficient so the performance of EV's will keep increasing.

At some point next year, the new Tesla Model 2 should hit the market at about US$24,000.  At an exchange rate of 1.35, that's Cdn$32,400.  That's before the $5000 Federal tax credit of $5,000 which takes takes the price down to Cdn$27,400 in Ontario.  If you live in Quebec, the price drops to Cdn$20,400.  Meanwhile, an entry level Civic now costs just under Cdn$27,000 and ranges up to just under Cdn$36,000.  You can bet that the new Tesla will come "loaded" like all of the other Tesla models

By the end up next year, you will be able to buy a new "loaded" Tesla Model 2 in Ontario for about the same price as a "stripped" Honda Civic.  By that time, the Tesla will probably get 5x the gas mileage as the Civic.  The Tesla wll get over the air (internet) upgrades weekly for the life of the car and won't need oil changes, brake jobs, or tune ups.

Nothing to worry about for SU shareholders.
