Alberta should diversify because they are too dependent on energy. In good cyclical times, everybody has a job and wants to live there. In bad times, circa 2015, nobody wants to live there and they move to Ontario. Diversification doesn't mean a shift away from oil and a push towards other energy sources. It could simply mean putting more resources to other sectors of the economy that is not related to energy. Kevin O'Leary often talks about building more data centres because the world needs then. That's a good start.
