OT - Earthquake
As those of you who follow follow my posts know, I have encouraged people on this Board to donate to various charities to help those less fortunate.
I had thought about contributing to the earthquake relief efforts in Turkey and Syria but hadn't done so.
At dinner with my wonderful wife this evening, there was a segment on the news about the earthquake and there was an interview with a Syrian who had lost 20 relatives and close friends and was injured and said he wasn't sure why he wanted to live. My wife looked at me and asked "Have we contributed to help these people? I talked to Fejda today (a close Turkish friend of ours) and she said that things were really bad there and she didn't didn't know if her cousin was still alive"
Embarassed, I said I hadn't contributed as yet. I got "the look" (most guys here will know what I mean) and said I will send a contribution to the Canadian Red Cross after dinner.
I encourage those of you here who have the means to help out.

Agreed that the Red Cross is not the best organization when it comes to things like this but like you I couldn't think of another organization that could directly help that wasn't even more corrupt. Plus the Federal Government is matching contributions to the Red Cross so I went with them.

Yeah I agree, the Red Cross is a disaster in itself. I remember hearing a few years ago that about 65% of Haiti earthquake relief funds went into the pockets of the NGOs, politicians (Clinton's B.S. of all people), etc. And people wonder why the place is in a state of anarchy and chaos today.

A retired British couple living in Turkey just posted a video with a couple of links where you can donate directly to the Turkish rescue efforts rather than the bureaucrats over here. EARTHQUAKE DISASTER IN TURKIYE (Click on Show more in the video description to see these links.) AHBAP & AFAD Right now 1 C$ = about 14 Turkish Lira

My apologies. Something is not working with Stockhouse's new format. I posted three coloured hot links and none of them came through in my posting; however, they are there when I click the "Comment" button. I've posted hotlinks many time before so they've got some debugging to do I guess.
