It is government cheese (and whips) that's powering the green movement.  As in all governemnt programs, they promised they are good for you, and get approved by under estimate the cost while overstate their benefits in order to buy vote.  It is the hypocrisy that drives me nut. Even before EVs time, federal gov'ts always give support and bail out to the Ontario auto manufacturers ...more

Our C. Freeland knows best, she's on WEF executive, ex-finance minister, and an economic expert who help negotiated the trade deal with the US and needed her parents to co-sign her loan to buy her house. Therefore, she must knows more than the PBO. Gawd help us.

Yep - totally agree.... What concerns me as a tax payer is that every other subsidy I can think of over the years by Governments to fund an auto manufacturing facility ended up with the auto maker leaving and taxpayers left with holding the bag. The problem? Governments never negotiate penalties if the auto makers doesn't fullfill its part of the deal (especially when they pack up and leave ...more

Remember the Delorean, I guess we have just ended up in an alternative future universe . Some one seems to have ripped a page out of PET s playbook !!

Oldnagger...Chip of the old block as they say....the other page that PET junior seems to have ripped out was the one on the NEP which for a time desimated the Canadian O&G industry and stoked the fires of Western alienation. Guess I'm getting too old (sigh) but so many things I look at today seems like an upside down world we are living in (perhaps I just don't get it....dunno). I ...more

Anyone do the math yet? The PBO analysis also estimates that the deal would create a peak of 3,100 jobs at the start of 2026, but that figure would fall to 1,400 by the end of 2027 — lower than what Ottawa has claimed it would. $16.3 billion divided by 3100 initial jobs = $5,258,064 per job. $16.3 billion divided by 1400 continuing jobs = $11,642,857 per job. Doesn't anyone in the PMOs ...more

Oh but just think of how Justin and his climate saving consitituents will point out its not about the money........its about saving the climate.   How proud they will claim we should all be because Canada is doing its bit to save the world.  Same as  getting rid of plastic bags and demonizing our oil sands.   The disgusting thing is while we sacrifice our standard of living on ...more

Geez Migraine - don't you know that policy wonks in the Government don't use calculators because they don't need them or more importantly don't have a clue HOW to use them.....lol Just to put all this into historical context..  A while back the Fraser Intstitute did a study of Government grants to business. Between 1980 and 2009 (29 years using my calculator), the Feds ...more

Subsidies,  just another form of bail outs and/or tax favoured treatment to suppport  businesses that can't make it on their own but are deemed worthy of support for social or economic reasons is questionable at best. The thing is,  whenever it has been tried,  I can't ever remember it being a successful strategy in my lifetime.  Perhaps someone knows of an ...more

subsidies are government's way of picking winners and losers, and we all know gov'ts aren't too bright and always guided by their real motive and agenda**. Just one more thought about my original post. Have the Liberals completely ignored the Pathways Alliance project ? Pumping CO2 directly into underground storage caverns is proven cost effective technology that will directly benefit Canadians wheras battery production by foreign producers is not only cost ineffective but also most likely to result in very marginal gains in CO2 removal from the ...more
