paro (civil strike) against the mineral project is now underway in the Valle de Condebamba.

This marks a second stand-off over mineral development in Cajamarca region, following the long struggle over Newmont Mining's Conga project.

That's cow excrement from a leftist blog. The public audience took place according to law, with authorities and community reps being present and police protecting the area against antiminers who always try to stop the approval of EIAs for political reasons. No real news, the project should move forward provided SUE is duly funded.
