Really? Please list for us the other areas outside of jewelry where gold has utility such that massive amounts of it are needed for everyday practical purposes....?

BTW, utility is not making coins or storing gold bars in vaults. You can make coins, bars, smilely-faces, etc. out of silver, copper, nickel, or other metals too. Utility means a metal's practical uses. You can't eat gold, pour it into your gas tank, wire your home with it when copper or other materials are far cheaper and work just fine - they don't even use gold for tooth fillings anymore. There are very, very tiny amounts of gold in some useful items outside of jewelry, but guess where the vast majority of the world's mined gold is? Sitting somewhere in the form of coins or bars generating no yield and costing the owners money to store it.
