I hold a considerable number of shares in TSL & recall reading your post & thinking $3.59 would be a good price to add more. In fact, I've added a little more 2 or 3 times over the last few weeks. TSL trading, however, has been somewhat mind-boggling of late. Today the SP dropped below the EPS ($3.44 vs $3.45) generating a price/earnings ratio of less than 1. I just had a look at the financials. Your EPS is wildly overstated. How did you get that figure?

The EPS (used in the price/earnings ratio) is based on the 12 months trailing net earnings which comes to $3.45 per share as stated on the TSX TXL page.

Better just open up the financials yourself and do your own calculation. You'll see that's an exaggerated figure. Steel has come down a lot.

The numbers are the numbers and I've reviewed the financials many times. Are you saying the TSX is reporting the wrong EPS number? While steel futures have fallen, prices for specialty products and high grade steels remain relatively high.

I totally agree with you Stocker.  Tree Island is not making steel but producing steel products.  All construction material on the wholesale and retail side has dropped.   But when you factor in they are paying less for a raw product than before I would imagine their profits levels are pretty close to before.  At these prices its a steal, add in they added another 2 cents ...more
