Bioniche pounces on meat scare

Bioniche Life Sciences is hoping to ignite sales of its "pre-harvest" vaccine for killing E.-coli bacteria in beef cattle just days after traces of that organism were found in Australian meat exported to the US.
The ASX- and Toronto-listed biosciences group issued a press release this morning reminding the world that there are studies saying the vaccination concept works - and here is one that we just happened to prepare earlier.
The slight draw back for Bioniche is that it is yet to be licensed to flog its Econiche vaccine by the US Department of Agriculture.
Bioniche's product was cleared for use in Canada in 2008, although it admits in its statement that uptake has been slow and limited to small producers of branded product who see the cost of the vaccine as a worthwhile investment to protect their reputation.
Cracking the US market is obviously difficult because Bioniche says that it has been "in dialogue" with the USDA since February 2008, after having been told that it could receive a conditional licence once certain conditions were met.
It said today that the department recently updated its guidelines and it was hoping to "collaboratively reach consensus on the path to vaccine licensing".
Insider suspects that is diplomatic code for Bioniche wanting a meeting to work out how the heck it can crack the market.
