RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:The vulnerability of wind power If as you say, I completely mis- characterized a news article, that was clearly not my intention, I highly value my reputation and strive to be fair and open to the best of my ability. Otherwise ,why even bother to post ? Believe me I have many other interests that I need my attention .
My mistake has been to allow my past experience to jump to a conclusion , without always bringing the reader along to the reasoning that is behind my conclusion . In the case of that article, My conclusion was that being successfully hacked was inexcusable. It reminded me of instances way back in my career where certain energy providers had dial up connections right to their processing units, such that anyone knowing the phone number could dial in and create unimaginable havoc !! I had thought we were way past those days. Seems maybe not.
Not so much for windturbines, but certainly for nuclear power , which will need to be pervasive , Security will need to be of the utmost importance .Russians and other malfaisants are everywhere.
As to the economic viability of wind turbine vis a vis other alternatives it is different for each case depending on wind factors primarily and many other factors. Also all in costs need to be compared
If we had free and open economies , we would not need to bother ourselves. A free economy would determine that for us. Those who get it right will prosper and those who don't will not. The net result will be a gain in energy efficiecy, which I stated before is what it should really be all about !!
