Your statement that Russia (may have) torpedoed the pipelines makes some sense, depending on their contracts to supply gas. Now they can claim Force Majeure and not fulfill those contracts, at no cost.
If Russia is the evil meddler in the West as is their caricature then this is an example of them menacing and troubling many international relationships.
No matter what, I think that this is a very serious geopolitical event. Sabotaging international conduits of gas or communication is incredibly dangerous and destabilizing.
