Pakistan

Months on from devastating floods in Pakistan, millions of people remain homeless, roads are destroyed and tens of thousands of schools and hospitals lie in ruins. At the COP27 summit, the country's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on Western nations to offer compensation to poorer, vulnerable countries like his, which bear the brunt of climate change. Pakistan's government says the figure for losses and rebuilding now stands at more than $30bn. But the human cost is far higher - more than 1,700 people died in the floods and two million homes were damaged or destroyed. Those people who survived are living in endless uncertainty and despair.

Pakistan /India has had monsoon season ever since they existed. People live in uninhabitable areas then wonder why their property has been destroyed.  There are huge parts of the Middle East and Africa that should not have human beings living there at all and it's only going to get a lot worse . We need less humans and more nature and maybe, just maybe the Earth and its climate will heal ...more

If you dumped garbage into your neighbors yard and it resulted in clogged perimeter drains and property damage who should be held responsible for the damages? CO2 emmissions are no different. Global warming is making weather patterns, including monsoons, much more intense and catastrophic. Poorer countries who for the most part are not the ones pumping CO2 into the air are suffering the ...more

That's a bit of a stretch on the truth.. poor countries resort to burning wood, coal, oil, Nat Gas, dung, or anything else that will burn to create energy too.. some of those are far worse than western countries buring Nat gas.. like the earlier poster said.. if you build in a flood plain, expect that flood plain to do what its supposed to do every once in a while.. manage flooding..! Looks like India may be clogging its own drains And, good luck getting China to do anything. You know the one supposedly responsible for 25% of the issue

You are pushing Marxist propaganda and lies.  CO2 is plant food and we need it to survive.   P.S. there are only two genders.
Comment by Oldnagger on Nov 11, 2022 5:04pm
Poor countries who have undergone disasters by any cause should always receive aid from those who are able to provide it. IMHO that is where the argument should end !!
Comment by Citizen13 on Nov 12, 2022 1:18pm
Perfect . You drive an ICE car ?  You have a gas stove/cooktop?  A gas furnace ? Give us your details so we can sue you. Just a ridiculous logistically impossible thing to control.  The State of New York sued big oil and lost , so that's where the argument should end. Already gone through the courts and failed miserably. As most wokeness should.

I am stating a moral precept not a legal one !!
Comment by wkrpradio on Nov 12, 2022 6:12pm
"Moral precept" was the excuse that Putin used for his invasion of Ukraine. You have a right to your opinion , just like everyone else, but there are no absolutes when it comes to morals. Many in Pakistan claim to have the moral right to behead what they consider to be Infilels.
Comment by Oldnagger on Nov 13, 2022 5:53am
Wow !! I am not a dangerous dictator nor a murderous fanatic, just a guy who believes that people need a hand up when life deals them a bad hand . By moral precept I mean that aid should be at the option of the donor according to the values that the donor wishes for himself. I am a little concerned that I need to explain such basic concepts !!
Comment by Citizen13 on Nov 13, 2022 9:06am
You are opening a whole can of worms when pulling out the morality card. I think India /Pakistan are way overpopulated and should therefore compensate the rest of the world for that. Comment by masfortuna on Nov 14, 2022 9:35am
That "energy footprint" arguement does not hold water.  Since Canadians heat their homes for 6 months if not greater, 40% of our enery footprint derives from that. Add the fact that we are an industrialized society where many need to commute to work as opposed to walk, and that accounts for another 20%.  Also, the energy footprint arguement does not take into account ...more

He is not denying that climate is changing. He is stating that what we are doing is not going to solve the issue. It's virtue signalling. Here is a chart of the last 400 000 years. Do you notice something?

Which comes first the chicken or the egg? And is there a colour line for population? We seem to have had 4 heat peaks, coincidental with carbon dioxide peaks, with the highest being about 325,000 years ago. I wonder if that was caused by the humans at that time? Gotta admit that the two run side by side. Takes you back to the old saying "figures don't lie but liars sure figure." Oh ...more

Yes I do notice something: #1: peak cycle every ~150K yrs; and #2; current cycle, of both CO2 & TEMP, are not going down but in a +_2% change area, there lays the problem.
Comment by Pandora on Nov 14, 2022 2:16pm
P.S. I would be a lot more worried about getting back down to that -8 degree limit. A hell of a lot more people will be dying from the cold. You will notice that the carbon dioxide number duplicates the trend of the temperature number so getting rid of carbon dioxide could also be a catalyst for screaming climate change. Comment by Moemoney42 on Nov 13, 2022 10:21pm
I've read in the past (and tend to agree with this perspective) that the population will peak around 8.9-9 billion people and stay at that level.. actuaries have modeled that the number of deaths/year will start to match the number of births and growth will level off.. I guess time will be the deciding factor.. not sure if I'll be around to confirm the thesis or not..??
Comment by Oldnagger on Nov 13, 2022 11:21pm
The population will most likely cross the 8 Billion mark on Tuesday. The challenge will be to try to maintain relative harmony That will require much more enlightened thinking than what we have seen lately IMHO

Anyone who insists on breeding, is part of the climate change problem, and not part of the solution.  The geographic location of said breeders is irrelevant. Why are people in developed countries breeding, when there are already MILLIONS of mouths to feed in the world ? Human breeders are just plain old selfish, there's no other word for it.

Well, overpopulation plus no birth control equals irresponsible. Nuclear weapons with no disaster relief funding equals irresponsible. Religion is not a good excuse for not taking  responsibility for your own population. Pakistan should invite VET to explore for NG and switch to clean burning fuels or sell them. GLTA
