The "oil executives in Alberta" were desperate....the Mainline was running half full and losing money. The new strectch of pipeline would have been almost double the length of TMX...the tolls on TMX are 11 bucks a barrel. All the new pumping stations required on the old line would have come at a cost as well. The Mainline running half full backed up gas in AB and the price of gas crashed
