US Oil Rig Count Rises by 13 This Week, Baker Hughes Says

03:33 PM EDT, 05/20/2022 (MT Newswires) -- The number of oil rigs operating in the US rose by 13 this week, according to data compiled by energy-services firm Baker Hughes (BKR).

The count rose to 576 in the seven days through Friday, Baker Hughes said. A year earlier, the US had 356 oil rigs in operation.

Oil and gas rigs in the US rose by 14 to 728. Gas was up one rigs to 150, and miscellaneous rigs remained at two, the company's data showed.

In the same period of 2021, there were 99 gas rigs and no miscellaneous rigs in operation. Overall, there were 455 rigs operating a year ago.

Across North America, oil and gas equipment rose by 14 to 816, up from 513 at the same point last year. In Canada, the count was unchanged at 88, compared with 58 operating during the same period last year. Canada's oil rig rose by three to 40 while gas fell by three to 48.

Among US states, top producer Texas added 12 rigs. Louisiana and Oklahoma each gained one.
