Vanouver Port Strike
Would someone know to what extent WEF is affected by the Vancouver Port Strike. More specifcally, I am curious to know whether there is a commercial port on Vanouver Island that WEF is able to use to ship its products. There has been some talk on this board about lumber being in its fourth leg. I do not think we are even in the third leg. There is a looming lumber shortage due to AAC reductions in Eastern Canada and the pine beetle infestation in the interior of BC all the while US annual housing starts are still at about 60 to 70% of their historical average and Asia is becoming an ever-increasing consumer of Western lumber products. My only concern is the short term and the effects of the transportation issues facing the BC forestry industry over the last few weeks. It is hard to tell what the impact of the transportation issues will be on short-term lumber prices since constrained supply (and eventually increased supply in a relatively short period of tiime) has to be werighed against pent-up spring building demand.
