Does anyone know why WFG is up 3.4% versus CFP down 0.48% and IFP down 1.41%?

LPX is up 1.72% so I take it OSB might be doing better than lumber today, but maybe something else is going on.

Volume is not super high though.

Hi Apaulson, i was just about to write a post about the unusual price action of WFG. In June i saw the same thing happening with RFP.At that time, i thought that with their war chest Canfor could be a potential buyer.Well i was wrong, it was Papier Excellence. I have the same feeling here.While the volume is not that great, the fact that the stock is moving while most of the rest are not tells

Hi lifeisgood1010, It could be Kronosplan. I was watching the price action on RFP before it was acquired as well and it ran up quite a bit the two weeks before the announcment, and then the day before the announcement it tanked like 12%.  Maybe an announcment will be made but the daily volume is low so far though. Either Kronospan takes out WFG, or WFG and CFP go after IFP is my guess

You and i see the same thing happening. I have a sizable position in IFP.WFG or CFP going after IFP would be nice for me. In any event,something will happen before year end with either WFG, CFP and IFP. 1-IFP is just to cheap on a comparable basis. 2- CfP as a war chest(1.534b at the end of Q2) and will eventually deploy it to grow. 3- After reducing it's share count big time, WFG will

I agree.  CFP and WFG will also want to acquire IFP before the end of the year.  1Q is usually the most profitable quarter.  They'll want to get it before then. It could also be another curtailment or mill closure in BC is coming.  Usually those announcements are made on Thursdays after the close (accoding to analyst, Hamir Patel, of CIBC).
