For the moment, let's set aside what the markets and copper and gold have been doing over the past week. We have a signifigant date looming on the horizon with only a few possible outcomes (11/30/2022). The outcomes are:
- Rio walks away.
- Rio makes an offer or extends for a year.
Let's assume for sake of discussion that either option is of equal probability - 50/50. If Rio walks the stock will decline. If Rio makes an offer or extends for a year the stock will rise. The key in my mind that given the equal probability of either, the magnitude of the decrease will be far less than the magnitude of an increase. So if I'm right there will be upward pressure on the stock over the next 7 weeks as the upside in terms of return is better than the downside. Conclusion, good buying opportunity.
