Buyout question

I've only been dabbling in junior mining companies for a little less than 20 years, but some who post on this board have far more experience than I. Has anyone ever seen an offer for a company that values its shares at 3X or 5X the pre-announcement price?

Investors reacted by sending shares of Western Silver up $5.28 to $24.80 on the TSX on Friday. Shares of Glamis slipped $1.11 to close at $33.62. I remember that Friday well. I was smiling with glee.  oh, same cats ... mr. ken williamson was sitting on the other side of the table... interesting tidbit.

Going from $19 to $24 in one day is a 25% premium ...not a 3-400% premium. Thinking we can go from $2 to $6 a share in one week ??? Crazy talk unless we were to sign up another major and bidding war takes place. Maybe your example went up 10 times price but over a several week period or something...plus that was back in the days when everyone was overpaying for assets and got burned ...right?

Sooner, i was there on the day of the spike. i remember that Friday oh, so well. i bought in in one full swoop at .98 a year or two earlier. yes, it went up in increments but on that Friday it shot up from around $5 to $24 in one day. this is what we call a spike stock. i was checking back every 15 mins and i couldn't believe my friggin eyes. i am not lock, stock, and barrel on npv and ...more

I believe they meant up FROM not up that amount.

Sooner, it seems that RIO is slow-walking this one.  They aren't in a rush to start a bidding war. Management put in the restrictions on their share ownership, thus keeping the share price in the open market down.  At a certain point soon there should be no restrictions and then RIO can buy as many shares as needed to get the share price to the point where they can "justify ...more
