Paul should buy in.

At these levels he makes a quick 25 percent from the average price he sold at.
Comment by Marine2 on May 25, 2023 10:42am
You say   ""Paul should buy in."" Paul can't,, Paul said he would be or talking to Rio about next steps that could be buyout talks. Paul has been restricted from buying shares because of insider circumstances (buyout talks).  More going on then we know about that will lead to major changes to Western Copper & Gold ! For the most part, yes, we are near the end game (imho).  That being said, if you are a long term investor from the genesis of WRN, you have been waiting for 17 years.  We are in the last 10% of the timeline though for those long-term holders, so I stick with my 1 to 2 years away projection. The cover charge to have any serious discussions regarding a buyout is $1 billion USD minimum ...more

Diamondboy, You were just being "sarcastic" and I was just reminding everyone of what is going on with Paul and Rio. I am sure Paul, Rio and Mitsubishi Materials are talking about next steps ! Something has to happen,,,  WRN starts the ball off with submitting a plan to the Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Board only to have Rio change it after. Does ...more

Marine, I wouldn't be so sure about this: 'The Yukon Environmental and Socio-Economic Assessment Board will keep dealying "filling requirements" until it is known who is bulding the mine at Casino.' Recall, we've had guidelines previously issued. We then - unceremoniously, in retrospect - paused permitting to deal w tailings. I don't presume YESAB cares who ...more

jclarke, I hear you, but how many time does it take (extending timelines) to read between the lines ? (not interested in WRN / Pauls application) Paul has let it be known "Casino is up for sale" brought in Rio and Mitsubishi Materials,  they are talking next steps !   Paul has said filling better done by the company that will build the mine, no changes after. The BoD and Paul honestly don't have to do anything this year.  We all get that the permitting is best done by the ultimate party to operate Casino.  We don't need to perform any additional drilling as the project is beyond robust already. Between "gambling" that proceeding wih permitting is the right choice or merely being patient and continue to market Casino, I ...more

Wish I could get that gig....not doing anything this year and still getting paid to just sit around and do nothing aside from watching the daily prices of gold and copper and twittle thumbs until that hits $2500 and $5.... cmon....they are actively working on getting a deal done...and not for some ridiculously high multi billion dollars!
Comment by Pinegrove1 on Jun 04, 2023 8:03pm
Agreed. Copper and gold will move up and down as always. This thing won't be sold at spot, however the share price seems to think so. Guessing the folks around the bargaining table are trying to find an acceptable future range of commodity prices to base the buyout on. It's called negotiating and I'm confident that we have enough talent at the table to get a good deal done.
Comment by Heywood_Silvers on Jun 04, 2023 10:54pm
Yes, they are pushing towards their ultimate goal: selling Casino to the highest bidder. Here is the crux of the matter at the current juncture:  there are no bidders for a multitude of reasons including: RIO has to let the dust settle on the Turquoise matter. NEM has to let the dust settle on the Newcrest matter. Makets have to roll over and let the dust settle (ala capitulation) for ...more

I second, Pappy! Please, other folks, do us all a favor. For someone waiting around for 16 years given and take, I will not accept under $20. Keep up the thoughtful posts that elucidate, Heywood. If only I had the same approach towards women. But that's a different ballgame.

You do realize that at my $15 target, that is only about a 10 bagger from today's levels, yes? Or, if you got in early enough, you would be looking at maybe a 20 bagger or so. Does that mean, according to your logic, that any investor who achieves (hopes/expects) for returns of this level are beggars looking for charity instead of serious investors? What Paul said was that somebody woudl be getting quite a deal at $1B which means that's very low.  He's said definitely not $3B and $2B wasn't likely.  So, where does my $10-$12 target come from...it comes from dividing $1.5-$1.2B by number of outstanding shares.  Sooner, you short for under $1B when Paul indicated that would be quite a deal.  I realize you are way ...more

Metal. - minor issue or disconnect I have with your calc. $1.2B x 75% cad = $900M usd (no one cares about CAD haha!!!) 900M divided by fully diluted shares 170M I think we are up to...is $5.3 usd per share. We continue dilution...the lower it goes.... agree...Paul stated they could make out well at $1B. I assume he meant cad. He stated they would not pay $2B
Comment by EvenSteven27 on Jun 06, 2023 6:54pm
Sooner everything is based on context. in that interview, Paul was pressured by the interviewee to answer a question he couldn't possibly answer. he didn't want to scare off rio because early stage in negotiation process. resources and npv have grown substantially since then.

Sooner, what could very well happen is that the parties meet somewhere in the middle.  You say $6 on the low end, others are saying $15+ on the high end. Has it ever occurred to you that the end game lies somewhere in the middle?  Isn't that how negotiations always go?  Short of a bidding war, this is a likely outcome.  That would, using our respective figures shake out to ...more

Heywood, I know my $20 is on the high end and I do agree $10 or $12 for initial bid is reasonable. what i am betting on is a bidding war. whether that bidding war comes will boil down in many ways to timing. i'm hoping. IF a bidding war ensues, it COULD go over $20. still it would be a steal.
Comment by Heywood_Silvers on Jun 05, 2023 11:13pm
Sooner, I agree that there is not some $20 minimum to announce an acquisition offer.  The bar may be as low as $10 and then the gamble is that it kicks off a bidding war.  BUT, what if no bidding war ensues?  You HAVE to have that downside protection built in.  Double digits minimum, or come back when the offer is legit, otherwise our time is being wasted. Comment by gratvalyou on Jun 03, 2023 9:11pm
I answered my own question Thanks A: You can exercise stock options during a blackout period. However, if you are an Insider, you must pay the exercise price in cash (you cannot do a “cashless” or “net” exercise). Additionally, Insiders may not sell the shares received upon exercise of their options until the end of the blackout period.
