They could have grandfathered those that had converted, but they did not. Trust income that went into RRSP's are taxed when the monies are paid out, and likely at higher rates.
The reason the country is in such a fiscal deficit is not so much the financial melt down but that, against the best advice, they opted to reduce the GST instead of reducing personal tax rates. Now we have a structural deficit at the federal level, and the provincial level under McGinty.
And yes, I would have preferred to see Bob Rae in power over Harper.
