The American Petroleum Institute late Tuesday reported that crude supplies fell by 2.3 million barrels for the week ended August 14, according to sources. Analysts polled by Platts forecast a decline of 1.2 million barrels. The more closely watched Energy Information Administration report is due Wednesday. September crudeCLU5,-0.61%traded at $42.36 a barrel on Globex, down from the $42.62 settlement on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
