NPV of Chinese investments in the CDN oil patch is unknown. So far not convincing. On the surface, their timing seems to be off. Only time will tell.

I would submit that, in 2016, Chinese investments in Canada was not a given. PM Trudeau’s visit to China was probably not only about shaking hands and his « support » for pipelines probably helped too.

For better or for worse, I would say that to be long oil, you have to be long China also, at least to some degree. It helps if you understand the Chinese mind. I don’t. I am not bright enough.
