HHS Calls for Moving Marijuana to Lower-Risk US Drug Category

August 30, 2023 at 10:12 AM MDT

US health officials are recommending easing restrictions on marijuana, a move that sets the stage for potentially expanding the cannabis market.

A top official at the Department of Health and Human Services wrote Drug Enforcement Agency administrator Anne Milgram calling for marijuana to be reclassified as a Schedule III drug under the Controlled Substances Act, according to a letter dated Aug. 29 seen by Bloomberg News. This would mark a critical shift from

Likely the best news we have seen in over a year or two !? The 200 Billion Dollar Question is this....  does Cannabis actually need to be legalized if they simply reschedule it to a level 1 ..  seriously ?   It would be classified the same as alchol. Would the entire US Market then be open to all Cannabis Producers ?? If the answer is "Yes", then it could translate ...more

Seriously ??  For all your posts about the cannabis sector I have to question what you really understand about some of the major issues at play. Rescheduling cannabis to  Schedule 3 would not put it in the same class as alcohol, as you have erroneously stated.  If the DEA  follows the recommendation to reschedule marijuana to Schedule III, cannabis would be classified ...more

My mistake, meant to say "From level 1" as in downgraded.  Nice to see folks paying attention for a change. In regards to the classification of Alchol as a drug, you can refer to the following (link provided) Alcohol You’ve probably noticed that alcohol is not on the DEA’s list. Why isn’t alcohol a Schedule I drug? Despite a public health crisis, federal officials seem ...more

You still don't get it.  Even rescheduling cannabis to a Schedule III drug does not make it the same as alcohol.  For one it will still fall under the Controlled Substance Act and still be an illegal substance at the Federal level unlike the sale of alcohol.  Only if cannabis was descheduled would it be legal on the federal level. I was not pointing out your misnomer of ...more

Thank you for posting this on the Tilray board as it demonstrates which cannabis stocks to invest in and which should be avoided. I agree with quinlash that many senior government officials are recommending that legalization of cannabis be decriminalized even further than Schedule III. Even to the level of alcohol. US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has stated she would like to see cannabis treated the same as Alcohol & Tobacco.  Its obvious further discussions will be taking place over these upcoming weeks.

My eyesight must be going as for the life of me I cannot find the post where Quinlash stated [sic]; "...that many senior government officials are recommending that legalization of cannabis be decriminalized even further than Schedule III. Even to the level of alcohol." Could you please enlighten me and point me in the right direction.  If you are agreeing with him I would like to ...more

The fact is...Once the DEA is done with it, nobody truly knows what it will be Decriminalized too? Schedule III is only statement, not a fact on what may happen, will happen or  has happened. For now the News is - Schedule III Full Legalization would be good for the campaign trail! Cheers, V
