marketing strategy note:I was thinking about NPH;s Canadian marketing today and had this thought: I really like the idea of nph being the independent focused pharmacy supplier (and even staying away from the larger chains as a potential company policy). I see a few nice benefits. Firstly, since NPH would have a completely seperate channel from the national chains I think it would be easier to get deals with newly developed generic drugs (and in case you did not know these ohave big advantages , profit wise, since there is a period of exclusivity of 6 monthes of the first generic out, and often it can be over a year or two before the secondt generic comes out, and often the first generic will sell for 70% of the brand for the first year or two or even longer)..... so by having a seperate chanell from the major chains some generic drug developement companies might give the Canadian market to two companies (NPH, for the independents and seperately to the national chains) ..if nph was selling in both channels it likely would be harder, initially especially, to land those deals..do not kid yourself this niche, within the generics space, is big potential growth and large sales...A last related thought is that it will help enormously in getting these cherry picked new generics rights, by having our 48 molecule portfolio , of tradional generics, rolled out and underway...The other benefit of focusing on the independents is the marketing program can be tailored to them alone, to make them feel special and cater exclusively to them...
