your expert is incorrect. The name was applied to immigrants from Great Britain who worked labour jobs out of doors. Usually hunched over, their necks exposed to the sunshine, they got sun burned. That is where the name came about. It has subsequently been transformed to what your "expert" writes. The Irish, for example, experienced racism and were referred to as rednecks.
