Short positions as of end Sept 80
This may explode the other way with a simple positive trigger.....hold it won't be long now!!!!! Sept 30th, there was short interest totaling 20,480,000 shares, a drop of 16.4% from the previous total of 24,510,000 shares. Changes in short volume can be used to identify positive and negative investor sentiment. Investors that short sell a stock are betting that its price will decline in the future. An increase in short sale volume suggests bearish (negative) sentiment among investors. A decrease on short sale volume suggests bullish (positive) sentiment.

Do you think it's a possible that a $9.00 stock would have more shorts as it has a larger share price drop? Do you think maybe Hexo at $2.00 has pretty much run out of room for serious investors to bother shorting it.
A decrease in Hexo shorting isn't because investors think the share price is going to go up - there is little bullish (positive) sentiment because SSL drove this thing into the dirt.
