What is IPIn the simplest possible terms IP, or Induced Polarization, is electrocuting the ground. Electrically nonconductive minerals are oblivious to the current and the charge, whereas, electrically conductive minerals soak up some of the charge. An IP map is a map of soaked up electric charge with deep blue equal to zero and reds grading into pinks being maximum. A 3D IP map is standard with modern technology. A limitation being that the maximum depth of sensitivity is ~650 m.
An IP map is the not the same as an ore mineral map. Many ore minerals are electrically conductive but so are worthless minerals like Pyrite and Pyrrhotite. Only the drill bit can tell the geologist which minerals are soaking up the charge.
The IP map first published by BIG on December 15, 2022 and republished October 10, 2023 shows two lobes of soaked up electric charge (light pink). All of the drilling to date has been focused on the northern lobe. We now know that Pyrite with lesser amounts of Chalcopyrite, Bornite and Chalcocite are giving that IP anomaly. We now know that these minerals are associated with one or more Copper Porphyry deposits (CPD) at depth. We can assume that the southern lobe is the same as the northern lobe but we have to wait for drill results to confirm.
The company is greatly expanding the IP map to the east and going 3D. I am hoping that it outlines a huge CPD, especially to the southwest where there is no Hercules rhyolite cover rock. The orientation of this CPD is still a mystery. Don't assume that it is still straight up and down.
