Don't know for sure, but the fact that Teck chose to go it on their own some years ago, though they had talks with BQE and others, have spent many millions ( as in many, many ) wiithout any success in net reducing selenium , trying to solve the problem on their own. They now face a further $650 million ( as well as the $60 million in fines) to try to solve their selenium problem , and looks like they plan to do it on their own , again.

As a shareholder of both Teck and BQE,  it appears to me that it is strictly a ' Not Invented Here' 
situation, and Teck's solution is to continue the same process rather than admitting that someone else might have a better, and less expensive solution. 


Don Lindsay has a long , pretty positive record at Teck, but as a shareholder, I think he has really screwed up on this one........so far!
