Mining Moratorium

"...the government of Yukon announced that seven companies have given up over 5,000 of the more than 7,000 mining claims in conservation areas identified in the Peel Watershed Regional Land Use Plan that was approved in August 2019.

The Newmont Corporation, a gold mining company based in Colorado, gave up the most claims, relinquishing just over 1800.

Bernard Kreft, Generic Gold and ATAC Resources are among the other companies that have given up their claims.

First Nation of Na-cho Nyk Dun would have preferred the claims were never approved

The Peel Watershed is the traditional territory of three Yukon First Nations, one of which is the First Nation of Na-cho Nyk Dun.

Na-cho Nyk Dun says that they welcome the news of companies giving up their claims, but they would have preferred that the government of Yukon never approved the claims in the first place."

So OD reading between the lines here, this makes CD's results that much better because less mining? Just to be clear.

Although environmental groups and some First Nations opposed it, the Federal Govt has paramountcy over the routes. Their purpose is to get the Bitumen out to save Alberta. Trans Mountain ...more

That's not a saying, just saying.  Thinking about your logic here OD. CD gets permission to drill in the Yukon. They find the motherload. FN and Feds, not a chance they will support this opportunity in your opinion even in the face of them allowing the drilling and CD finding the value of Fort Knox in an out of the way place on the side of a mountain?  I don't buy your argument ...more

I have a small CD position and don't know much about mining in general.  I too have to disagree with OD.  However, I do have a reasonable understanding of geo-political situations.  If the germanium deposit is proven to be significant (and by significant I mean replace a significant portion or all of the world supply coming out of China and Russia for a equally significant ...more
