Not sure why you are concerned about KCK "surviving". Their debt is manageable, they have more than enough cash flow to maintain production until prices improve, and they have the assets to exploit for many years.
If KCK doesn't make it, then neither will 95% of the producers in western Canada. If that is what you expect, then stay away from investing in any energy play.
