"How Many Licenses will be Granted in 2014?
George Routhier is a consultant for companies preparing license applications to Health Canada. He has been involved in that process since 2003, and is a widely acknowledged expert on helping companies get through the mystical rejections that are typical of Health Canada.
Despite the mountain of applications being processed by Health Canada, he says he doesn’t think there will be more than 20 new licenses granted in 2014.
“I think they’ll grant another 25 to 30 licenses this year,” says Routhier.
So where does that leave the companies now raising money on the basis that they filed an application with Health Canada for a commercial license? Its like a game of roulette, with similar odds. Some will get licensed this year. But by the look of things, the overwhelming majority won’t. Which mimics rather perfectly the mining company odds, where 1 in 100 actually ever find something economically viable."
