Question

https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/statement-canada-strengthens-guidelines-to-protect-critical-minerals-sectors-from-foreign-state-owned-enterprises-808143957.html

I'm not sure to understand if this have an impact on CRE.
If we sign a deal with a foreign partner (Volkswagen, BMW, Panasonic... ), does the Federal will have to give his approval ? Or is it just for the companies who own lithium mining ?

Hope you understand what I mean. English is not my language...

State Owned is the key.  Foreign public or private companies are fine. This is really just code for China but theoretically others too. I welcome this decision as it limits foreign governments from  a) owning these critical assets and keeping material for themselves, or b) owning the assets and not developing them to inflate the price of their own assets held in their own jurisdiction ...more

So assuming french is your first language (like me), this sentence pretty much answers your question. " That is why Canada must build strategic resilience in the North American critical minerals supply chain with like-minded partners at home, within North America, and around the world. " On parle de partenaire en amrique du nord et autour du monde.

yes, but not any partnerships around the world. For instance, obviously, no take-overs of local companies) by foreign companies that could use them against local economies like Russian or Chinese companies that could retaliate or leverage their possessions or partnerships against NATO. Western powers have done this multiple times against so-called enemies (competitors really) and do not want to ...more

Yes, you mostly right on that BluePill. However there are still "deals"  being done sideways if you know what I mean.  One has to look good on the outside, bur behind the curtains many deals have large participations of Chinese and even Russian groups running under common North American names. Politics on the surface but money runs the show in the background.

Good points, Tinker! We agree! I think you are hinting that virtue signalling might be at play here, but money might trump that at the end of the day. On verra. I apologize for the auto-correct error on "their" in a previous comment for the grammar purists out ... there!
