Global supply

Do you think over the next few years our increasing production will outrun a decline in the commodity price?

I really wish we had been in production this year. I don't think we'll see these prices again.

Helium can escape the atmosphere. When it's gone, we'll have to find a way to get it from space.  It's on the Strategic Minerals list for Canada and the US (I know it's not a mineral, it's a bureaucracy thing). Do I think there will sleays be some incentive for domestic helium production. The Gazprom facility exploded and there's a slightly less favorable view of ...more

If you look at a historical chart of helium gas prices it has always been increasing and although we are probably in an anomaly in terms of abnormaly high prices, I doubt the price will come down to a level which will make it problematic from a profitability perspective. Consider the situation with russia which is not likely to end shortly and the increase in demand and I think we are going to be ...more

our cost to produce helium is less than 30 MCF so profitability is not a problem.

Just because thee is a high risk of a global recession, it does not  mean that helium prices need to go down. The main sources of demand--MRIs, semi conductors, coolant for date centers and for EV car batteries--only look set to either stay still or continue growing. Healthcare is largely recession-proof, digitalization is only going to accelerate and it is a similar story for electric ...more

I think we're in the middle of a  price/value discovery moment, the helium market free of it's government shackles in the middle of a global shortage. I think prices will continue to rise till you start to see prolonged demand destruction for the less important uses.   Till then the ceiling is really uknown.

I agree but the market is so opaque, we are unable to track demand destruction.

Good discussion. I was worrying more about the supply side as I have no insight on the demand side. But yes hopefully it takes awhile for Russian production to come online and that distance and sanctions keep it off the NA market regardless (though other displaced sources could still make it here). Our costs are low so profitability should be maintained long term.  One interesting thought I ...more
