Battery density

This is an interesting article announcing a lithium battery with an energy density of 500 Wh / kg. Previous density in a Tesla I understand is nearly half this. I cannot confirm if lithium batteries all utilize cobalt however when nickle batteries were being explored (without cobalt) I thought it was only a matter of time before even better more advanced batteries would be innovated using traditional high quality products (including cobalt). Is anyone on this forum familiar with batteries? Do all lithium batteries utilize cobalt?

I can only advise you to delve deeper into the matter and also and above all to follow European, German technical institutes. In all probability, this battery will be used for airplanes and probably also for trucks; as also announced by CATL. There is a correspondingly large amount of space for such batteries. It is assumed that silicon in the anode and a mix of NCM in the cathode lead to this ...more

Great resources WernHerr!  I will add them to my watch list.  These advancements are encouraging for the future demand for cobalt battery materials; now, if we could get some management that gets on top of things and communicates it!

You know full well that most battery manufacturers are developing away from cobalt, where possible.  And thats a good thing. Period.
