In Germany, the legalization of cannabis is becoming increasHowever, little is known about the future government's exact plans: Who will possibly be allowed to grow the drug, who will be allowed to process and sell it, and under what conditions? Will only marijuana harvested in Germany be allowed to be sold, or will flowers spoiled by the Portuguese sun be allowed to cross national borders? And where might the finished product be available for purchase? In sterile-looking packets in pharmacies? Or as lifestyle products tailored to specific target groups?
The most reliable figures so far are rough estimates: In 2018, the Dsseldorf economist Justus Haucap assumed an annually traded quantity of 250 tons. At an average price of ten euros per gram, the total turnover of the cannabis market would be around 2.5 billion euros. According to Haucap, however, more recent data shows that consumption and sales have increased in the meantime - the actual market volume would therefore be significantly higher.
