Renewable Natural Gas in B.C. is Now More Affordable Than Ever

This means the rate for the RNG commodity will change from the current price of $14.41 per GJ to $10.209 per GJ. For comparison, the newly approved premium for Renewable Energy over conventional Natural Gas is now be only $0.025 per kilowatt hour versus the current premium of approximately $0.040 per kilowatt hour. 

Based on the FortisBC RNG program structure, an average residential customer voluntarily participating in the RNG program by designating 10% use as RNG will expect the annual premium to drop by about $381

Today, FortisBC already has over 7,000 customers participating voluntarily in its RNG program. The decision is expected to spur even more demand for RNG in BC.
