'Satellite Nav'

'Satellite Nav'
Kudos to you Butch for correcting the 'Black Box' reference....you are 100% correct ...the Black Box is industry mandated by the various regulators. The AFIRS blue box is purely a user choice optional add-on....it cannot replace the Black Box.

With all respect to you....you note that the FAA seeks to have satellite nav. as the future standard. You then suggest that 'you'....meaning AFIRS I assume.....already have it and are thus ahead of the curve.

I'd beg to differ......AFIRS, as it stands at the moment, uses satellite as its communication base to pass select information to/from the aircraft. At this point in time it has absolutely no navigational applications nor have I ever seen any remote reference to any intention to do so.

Satellite nav will be well beyond the purview of AFIRS as it is presently constituted.
