We need better information on competition

This week, with the stock price continuing to linger in the $1.00 range I've been doing a bit more research into who our competition is.

Turns out, there's a lot more of it than I previously thought.

https://greendish.ca/

is near the top of the list when searching google for biodegradable food packaging.

They carry a lot of restaurant / take-out style containers, including biodegradable/compostable cutlery.

https://www.mrtakeoutbags.com/store/sbt-green-packaging.html

is another search result.  They have a lot of products, including tamper evident.

https://bulkmart.ca/collections/eco-friendly-disposables

Another sizable site offering similar poducts.

Anyway, there's actually way more companies doing this than I thought (it's actually a little overwhelming).  To me, this is a good news / bad news story.  On the one hand there's a lot of space for us, but also a lot of competition.  Also, most of the places I looked at are not public companies so they may be willing to be acquired.

I think it's also a possibility that at least some of these companies could (today or tomorrow) be customers of GDNP for our roll stock.

I'm going to cointinue my research and start asking IR some questions to get a better idea of how we stand out from the competition.

I thought we were a lot more unique than it appears we actually are.

I believe greendish is much smaller with far less capacity

I believe the others are just re-sellers or marketplaces... they don't manufacture the actual product.
Comment by dileas48s on Jul 28, 2021 4:23pm
I was thinking the same, but I'd like to know if that's the case or not (I mean generally, not specifically, case by case).

Hi there Dileas48s, You need more information on the competition? Here's some: Greendish They're a division of Simor AG which itself is a division of Simor Industrial Solutions.  SIMOR Industrial Solutions Ltd, is a supplier for Oil & Gas, Water, Locomotive parts and equipment. Total revenues of SIMOR Ltd is 16 millions with 73 employees. Sure, they have a nice ...more

Hi Hen, If you read my posts you'll know I'm long this stock.  That doesn't mean I'm going to stop doing due diligence to gain a better understanding of what opportunities exist for GDNP. I generally don't like to say much about my position, but here's some stats - let me know if this works for you. I bought my first shares (of Solegear) on April 9, 2015.  ...more

Hi Dileas48s, Thank you for sharing your story. It's always good to have more details about where someone is coming from. You've certainly been around longer than I have. I was a bit lucky when I initiated my position in 2019 as I caught a trough in the share price. Good luck to you and I look forward to reading more of your posts. Cheers, Hen long: axis, bqe, eqb, gdnp, gsi, spot ...more

It's interesting looking at these other companies products, especially https://www.mrtakeoutbags.com/ See that they have biodegradable plastic carry out bags. I was saying in an earlier post on this board how dumb it is for GDNP not to supply these. It is such a common item that even if they make 0 profit on it, they should still have it to attract customers. https://www.mrtakeoutbags.com ...more

Biodegradable plasic is much worse that regular plasic it decomposes into microparticles that are ingested by organisms at the low end of the foodchain and dangerously bio-accumulates up the food chain. Many groups have tried to ban these products for at least 20 years but the US and Canada have been slow to legislate the policy. This is greenwashing at its absolute worst. Some sea animals like ...more

' "Even if the make zero profit on them", any idea what that would do to the blended margin and valuation of the enterprise? Never do something for the sake of it! IMO
Comment by dileas48s on Aug 04, 2021 11:17am
I agree Paul has said several times that both plastic shopping bags and single use plastic water / beverage bottles are so heavily commoditized that it makes no sense to attempt to compete in that space. I would rather them sell 10,000 of something and make $0.025 profit per item than sell 40,000,000 shopping bags and make nothing.  I assume there not buying the high speed extruders for ...more

Ok I get you. So just curious then why these other company are selling biodegradable plastic bags if their is nearly 0 profit margin and these bags are bad for environment? See this is where I see gap in your argument. No one would sell these if you couldn't profit on them. Having these bags for sale that everyone wants and uses would bring in new customers to buy their other stuff.

I understand your perspective, so let me add a few other thoughts to how I look at this: 1) Several chains have already moved away from plastic bags, or are about to do so.  Freshco eliminated them altogether, other stores in my area are now offering paper over plastic, and have let it be known that they will eliminate the plastic option when inventory is used up 2) A lot of companies ...more

Lol you are completely wrong. Look what they just released in their product line. Bags! Too many dumb a$$ on here
Comment by dileas48s on Aug 17, 2021 10:55am
We were discussing shopping bags - or did you miss that?
Comment by timjim0417 on Aug 17, 2021 3:49pm
Still they have bioplastic bag now. The point I was making before was that they need to sell these commodity items. Yall saying their is no point to sell em cause of margins and eviro hazards or whatever... well they selling bags now so I was at least half correct in my opinion. You can make whatever distinctions you want and you know we will soon be seeing a gdnp shopping bag.
