Why did they switch from lead to graphite ?
Graphite came into widespread use following the discovery of a large graphite deposit in Borrowdale, England in 1564. Appreciated for leaving a darker mark than lead, the mineral proved so soft and brittle that it required a holder. Originally, graphite sticks were wrapped in string.

Years ago... when the lithium craze was in full swing,
I wrote a few posts saying... Lead is perhaps the best metal for electrons.
Tried a true... still being used.

pure lead is a metal that conducts electricity

Lithium gives up 1 electron or / ion. ( no good )
Lead gives up 2 electrons = 2x better than lithium
Aluminum gives up 3 electrons = 3x superior than Li.

Carbon
forms covalent bond. Carbon is another element with 4 valence electrons . It also share its electrons and forms covalent bond. Carbon has four valence electrons, so it can achieve a full outer energy level by forming four covalent bonds

Adding carbon to aluminum = powerful electron management.

Graphite ( is it really the ) carbon of lead ?

Lead, Graphite regardless... what do i seek ?
High grade deposit - minerals that can move more electrons than other metals.
Higher charge, house more electrons, married to best tech.

Are Govt's into carbon ?
You betchya they are.... and so is everyone else.
Lithium Carbonate = Li2CO3 it's the carbon in lithium that really does the work.
They should've named them... carbon batteries.
