Located 21 miles from Sage Ranch is the Mojave Air & Space Port. It's not a very large employer but the site does house some of the major brands in the aerospace and aircraft industry:

Edwards Air Force Base is located 44 miles from Sage Ranch. The base employs around 11,000 people.

A lot of them are living in Palmdale or Lancaster (located respectively 30 and 39 miles away from Edwards AFB). I'm no local but Jeff said there are some gang-infested neighbourhoods in that area and that there's a lot of traffic.

The crime grade can easily be verified on the website linked below. Sage Ranch is located right in the middle of a dark green A+ area (indication for the safest area).

If you zoom out and pan to the East, you'll see that that's not quite the case for the city centers of Palmdale or Lancaster. 

Sage Ranch is supported by a general and a colonel from Edwards AFB as the base has difficulties to attract talent and to house them and their families:
