Air Force unveils B-21 Raider stealth bomber in Palmdale, CA

Jeff asked me to post this news:

https://www.foxnews.com/tech/air-force-unveils-b-21-raider-stealth-bomber

These bombers will be built 45 minute drive from Tehachapi. The Air Force will build 100 planes over the next 20 years and is fully funded for $80 Billion at $800 million a piece.

Delays were from a shortage of appropriate housing.

Keep in mind the previous version was supposed to be a fleet of 175-200 planes. They built 22. Would really like to see some information related to the B21 Bomber being delayed due to a lack of housing. Never seen that comment before. The first flight is expected to take place sometime in 2023. Jeff utilizing others to comment and post?

Do you honestly believe when you're spending  $800,000,000 per plane  housing is going to be the reason for it being late. You're fired...........

It's probably not the only reason, shneps but definetely one of the structural ones in SoCal IMHO. If you Google for "Northrop Grumman labor shortages" or a variant for Southern California, you can find clues there. Another interesting clue can be found on their jobsite. Northrop Grumman has ~90,000 employees spread over dozens and dozens sites. Guess which job site currently has ...more

The industry issue is a labor and supply chain issue, not a housing issue. Keep in mind the privitized housing is "on base" housing. If you want to live off base you get an allowance. I am not aware of them owning any housing off base.

The labor issues correlate with the housing issues shneps. Have a look at the jobs to housing ratio for SoCal cities near Tehachapi. They are in the unhealthy regions as there are way more jobs than houses. This has an impact on the local economy and growth. Also look at the general impact of the housing crisis for state of Californa (est. between 140 - 230 billion/year I think).
