RE:RE:RE:Predatory short sellingthe naked short sellers usually hedge funds argue that its benefical to market flow and efficiency. But it is wide open to abuse. IMO. A company that wants a competitor out of business can just hire a few hedge funds to short it to death. The worst case I read about was a US company with 40m O/S and management figured there were about 2B shorts on the stock. This was back before the US banned naked short selling. Even though its been banned since about 2008. Its estimated 1/2B to 1B naked shorts still occur daily in the US alone. The Naked Truth has some good info.
