part of a news article from cbc news

I tried to post the whole article but the layout made the article too hard to read.  This would be good news for GSI

Drivers who endanger the lives of streetcar passengers by zooming past their open doors could soon get an automatic ticket as the province moves to allow automated cameras on the transit vehicles.

The Ministry of Transportation introduced the Moving Ontarians More Safely Act — also known as the "MOMS" Act — on Monday to make Ontario's roads safer and combat high-risk driving. The bill passed its second reading on Wednesday and is now being reviewed by the standing committee.

If passed, the legislation would amend the Highway Traffic Act to authorize the use of photo evidence to automatically ticket drivers who illegally pass streetcars.

Bob McWirther had mentioned a few times that the TTC was looking at this when he talked about GSI... ----------------- Automated tickets may be coming for drivers zooming past streetcars' open doors   Province has moved to allow use of automated cameras on streetcars   Jessica Cheung · CBC News · Posted: Apr 30, 2021 5:00 AM ET | Last Updated: 5 hours ago ...more

Thanks for posting the whole article. My cut and paste didn't do such a good job.  Looks like for the TTC the hurdle was legislation but hopefully the passing of the MOMS act will open the door for this to happen.

This is similar to the use of video surveillance as evidence for stop arm infractions. In the states, laws differ state to state, similarly in Canada, province by province.  That led to a slow adoption of the revenue sharing agreement between potential school boards and GSI. The concept was to have a self funded, fast payback by school boards for the hardware.
