I am new to this so I may be asking a foolish question.

I am in HPQ for the long run. With this news, wouldn't shorters be looking to cover their positions? I.E. rushing to buy up shares before the price gets too high? I would have thought the share price would have taken a bigger jump. Is it because their was no dollar value attached to the announcement?

im sure there are smarter people on this board who can elaborate further. but yes and no. Im sure some are trying to cover but other strategies (like you maybe see on a level 2) are the walls being built to dissaude accumulation and give the 'perception' there is no movement
