They have already succeeded in replacing Cobalt.
People who drive $80,000 Tesla's and Porche's may need 300 miles. Even Tesla Model 3's and Model Y's long range (300+ range) require cobalt today (until the 4680's arrive next year anyway). However, Tesla standard range Model 3's and Model Y's will be LFP in the US, as well as the majority of all Chinese marketed EV's. Additionally, not only is Tesla getting ready to produce cobalt free 4680's in Austin, but Panasonic is completing product development too, and they will be selling them to whoever wants them.
