OTTAWA, Jan. 23 /CNW/ - The Honourable Don Boudria, Minister of State and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, together with the Honourable Andy Mitchell, Secretary of State Rural Development and Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario and Member of Parliament for Parry Sound- Muskoka, will launch Phase I of the Government of Canada's broadband initiative, an effort to deliver high speed internet capacity to unserved rural regions of Canada. The event will take place at the Glengarry Curling Club in Maxville on Friday, January 24 at 10:30 (EST). The event will announce the successful applicants from across Canada who will each receive an investment of up to $30,000 from the Government of Canada to assist them in developing a business plan for their community broadband projects. The goal of the Broadband Program, an initiative led by Industry Canada and Minister Rock, is to work with community organizations and the private sector to develop broadband service for unserved rural regions of Canada. -30- For further information
