This well was drilled to 1733 meters However, The gas-charged Steinalm carbonate was hit at just above 4000m by the Molln-1 well when drilled by OMV in its hunt for oil, on its way down to an Anshof-type play at about 5700m. So there are even richer columns of condensate rich gas below this discovery..

Yes, it appears that in 1989 OMV hit 400m of gas but at much deeper depths. So yes, I think that this discovery is just the begining for this new Welchau field and that there is merit in saying that this could be a big day in the history of Austria in getting their country on the road to energy self sufficiency. Drill baby drill!
