INTERNET RESEARCH GROUP RELEASES MARKET SHARE NUMBERS FOR APPLICATION
SERVICE PROVIDERS NUMBERS INDICATE EARLY WINNERS IN RAPIDLY-CHANGING
Market
LOS ALTOS, Calif., Feb 14, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Internet
Research Group, the leading research and consulting firm focused
exclusively on Internet infrastructure markets, today released its
first market share assessment for the Application Service Provider
(ASP) market. The assessment is part of a white paper entitled
"Application Service Providers: A Market Overview," which is available
for download from IRG's Web site at
----->>>>>>>>>>>> www.irgintl.com/publications.shtml. <<<<<<<<<<<<<----
"The ASP market is exploding with new company and partnership
announcements coming almost daily," said John Katsaros, president of
IRG. "We think that every software company has to be looking at the ASP
model, and that in five years, a lot of companies will outsource most
of their applications."
The study shows that today's market share leader is USinternetworking
(with 36% of live contracts), followed by Breakaway Solutions (16%),
and Corio and Oracle (9% each). Other market leaders included in the
study were AppliCast, Corio, FutureLink, Interpath and Qwest.
In addition to market share numbers for the top vendors in the ASP
market, the paper examines how the market is segmenting into four
distinct categories: Web Software Vendors (WSVs), Service Aggregators
(SAs), Application Infrastructure Providers (AIPs) and Full Service
Providers (FSPs). Companies such as USinternetworking, an FSP, were
built from the ground up to enter the ASP market, while other existing
firms are scrambling to reposition themselves for one category or
another.
Internet Research Group intends to follow the ASP market closely, and
will release other forecasts and analyses of it during the coming
months.
