I have driven NG vehicles and yes they are short on power, as well as a very limiting range between fill ups.  Realistically, NG vehicles (at this point of their development) can only be service vehicles (like taxis, delivery trucks, or buses) that don't have to travel too far from a depot.  Refilling them by yourself (a non NG techncian) is an adventure.  I've pushed the "chicken switch" more often than anyone else during refilling.  When you don't hook up the hose properrly the "chicken switch" will stop the refill.  After all, you don't want to blow up the filling station do you?
